DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FROM $65
The seventh annual Dominican Republic Jazz Festival takes place October 20–23 throughout Puerto Plata, Cabarete, and Sosua. This year’s line-up features local and international artists, including Chucho Valdes, Ramon Vasquez, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

Located in the Playa Dorada complex, a private resort community of 15 all-inclusive resorts, Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada features a full-service spa, shops, restaurants, bars, and three casinos, all along a 13-mile golden sand beach. The resort offers numerous activities, including golf, horseback riding, windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, biking, and tennis. Located 30 minutes from the Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada, the Viva Wyndham Tangerine in Caberete caters to water-sports enthusiasts with kiteboarding, windsurfing, sailing, and excellent scuba diving at the coral reefs just offshore. The resort’s Kelive Spa offers guests unimaginable levels of relaxation, rest, and vitality while those seeking more action can enjoy shopping and nightlife in the charming village of Cabarete, which is within walking distance of the resort.

Rates start at $65 at Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada (Puerto Plata) and $70 at Viva Wyndham Tangerine (Cabarete).

GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND FROM $108
Grand Bahama’s second annual Jazz, Rhythm and Blues Festival takes place at various indoor and outdoor venues throughout Freeport and Port Lucaya from October 27 to 30. The line-up for the 2005 festival features performances by local and international artists, including Lou Rawls, The Stylistics, Roy Ayers, Angela Bofill, Edwin Elliot Quintet, and the G-Note All-Starz.
