Caribbean music festival boasts impressive lineup

Turks and Caicos Music and Cultural Festival set for July 31–August 7

Turks and Caicos, British West Indies (May 22, 2006) – Does music sound better in paradise? Find out this summer while soaking up the sounds, sun and Caribbean culture at the third annual Turks and Caicos Music and Cultural Festival. Set for July 31–August 7 on the island of Providenciales, this star-studded event features some of today’s most popular rap, R&B, jazz, reggae, gospel and pop artists, as well as a diverse collection of events and activities perfect for all audiences.

“We invite new and returning visitors from around the globe to travel to Turks and Caicos this summer; there is no better time to be in the tropics, enjoying the Islands’ vivacious spirit and world-class musical performances,” said Lindsey Musgrove, Director of Tourism for the Turks and Caicos Tourism Board. “The Music and Cultural Festival is the perfect opportunity to indulge in an unforgettable vacation at one of our renowned oceanfront resorts while dancing the days and nights away to the sounds of Hollywood superstars on our powdery white-sand beaches.”

The 2006 Turks and Caicos Music and Cultural Festival boasts an impressive lineup of A-list performers, including Ludacris, one of the music industry’s most in-demand rappers and a 2006 Grammy Award nominee; American Idol winner Fantasia, whose 2006 accomplishments include four Grammy Award nominations and a platinum R&B album; the UK’s Grammy Award-winning Steel Pulse, a reggae group committed to fighting injustice and promoting positive messages through spiritually uplifting music; and Yolanda Adams, another Grammy Award-winning singer whose unique style has helped to liberate gospel music. The event will also feature artists such as jazz instrumentalist Najee, Jamaican vocal quartet TOK, reggae vocalist Stanley Roots and local Turks and Caicos artists.

The festival will commence with the Miss Turks and Caicos Motorcade Kickoff Party and will continue with the Little Miss Turks and Caicos Pageant, the Miss Turks and Caicos Costume and Swimsuit competition and the Boat Regatta followed by the Float Parade at Turtle Cove Marina. The festival lineup also includes the Chief Minister’s Cup golf tournament, which tees off at the exquisite Provo Golf and Country Club. The week-long celebration will end with a bang at a beach party blowout on Lower Bight Rd.

For those unable to attend the highly anticipated event, the Turks and Caicos has partnered with Black Entertainment Television (BET) and BET J, the network’s jazz music video channel, to broadcast the festival’s music and entertainment performances across North America and the Caribbean.
