St Maarten resort repositions as one of island’s premier properties

Divi Little Bay Beach Resort receives renovations and expanded timeshare offerings

Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA (January 2, 2007) – Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, one of St Maarten’s most popular resorts and recently voted one of the top “Bang For Your Buck” resorts and “Best Family Vacation Resorts” in Caribbean Travel & Life magazine’s Best of the Caribbean Readers’ Choice Awards 2007, has implemented a plan to reposition the resort as one of the top resorts on the island and to expand the resort’s timeshare product. The plan calls for the renovations of a number of guest rooms and public spaces, as well as the expansion of the resort’s timeshare inventory by approximately $25 million.

“These renovations coupled with the conversion of many of the resort’s hotel rooms into timeshare units will not only help us meet the increasing demand for timeshare ownership, but will also go towards our ultimate goal of transforming the resort into more of a boutique hotel and make it one of the premier resorts in St Maarten,” commented Lou Roelofsen, Divi Little Bay’s general manager since April 2006.

Renovations, which have already gotten underway, include the refurbishment of 34 guest rooms with new furniture, flooring and soft goods, as well as new kitchen cabinets and appliances. In the public spaces, Toucans Café and the Sea Breeze Restaurant have been outfitted with new outdoor furniture, the deck at Sea Breeze was refinished in a Brazilian stone, the Sea Breeze pool was refinished and new exterior lighting will be installed throughout the resort. The resort’s infinity pool deck is also being refinished and the pool itself resurfaced. Additionally, the resort’s on-site fitness centre relocated to a more spacious location and received new equipment, with the current site converted to a Divi Resorts logo shop. Two new guest trolleys have also been added to assist in guest transport throughout the resort.

To accommodate the growing demand for timeshare ownership, which has been at a premium in recent years as the popularity of the resort and St Maarten has increased, Divi Little Bay has converted the resort’s 14 hillside casita units into nine luxury timeshare one-bedroom suites. The units, which were completed on December 1, 2006, feature upgraded amenities, including LCD flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, kitchens with granite countertops, whirlpool tubs and more.

Thirty-six beachfront hotel rooms are also being converted into 12 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom timeshare units. Offering premium ocean views and located just steps from the resort’s white-sand beach, these units will feature the same upgraded amenities as the new casitas.

The augmentation of the timeshare inventory will be rolled out over the next two years.

Located on the southern side of Dutch St Maarten, on a peninsula between Little Bay and Great Bay, the beachfront Divi Little Bay Beach Resort combines European charm with the unspoiled natural beauty of St Maarten. Situated on a long stretch of white-sand beach, Divi Little Bay offers more than 200 accommodations, including beachfront guest rooms, studios and junior and one-bedroom suites. Accommodations feature air conditioning; a spacious balcony or patio with ocean, bay or garden view; colour satellite television; telephone; ceiling fan; and in-room safe. Studios, junior suites and one-bedroom suites also have a kitchen and television with DVD player or VCR.

Ideal for couples, families and singles, Divi Little Bay offers three restaurants, three bars, including piano and beachside bars, three freshwater pools, children’s pool, lit tennis courts, the Indulgence by the Sea spa, fully equipped fitness centre, a watersports centre, meeting facilities and shopping promenade.
