Turks & Caicos spa first in Caribbean to offer coveted beauty brands

Award-winning The Spa at The Palms introduces therapies and products from Somme Institute and Sonya Dakar in spring 2007

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands (January 30, 2007) – The Spa at The Palms, a highlight of the 72-suite resort, The Palms, in the Turks & Caicos Islands, and recipient of the 2006 World Travel Award for Turks & Caicos' Leading Spa Resort, will add therapies and products from acclaimed beauty lines Somme Institute and Sonya Dakar in early spring 2007. This marks a first for the Caribbean for both highly coveted brands, which were previously unavailable in spas outside of the US.

Somme Institute’s groundbreaking patent pending MDT5 (Molecular Dispersion Technology 5) has been dubbed “the most significant advancement in the science of skin care since the introduction of alpha hydroxy acids” by Michael Holick, MD, PhD, Professor of Dermatology, Boston University School of Medicine. Similarly, Sonya Dakar’s celebrity clients include Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas and Jaime Pressly.

Following seven years of research with thousands of ingredients being tested on more than 5000 participants, Somme Institute’s much praised MDT5 product line comprises six highly engineered vitamins linked to proteins. The hugely popular five-step MDT5 has been designed to deliver hydration, repair sun damage and discoloration and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Products include a nourishing cleanser, gentle exfoliant, vitamin C serum, A-bomb comprising vitamins A and E, plus an SPF 30 double defense lotion.

Since 1971, Sonya Dakar’s products have been considered a well-kept secret of movie stars and Hollywood dignitaries. Based on the success of the Sonya Dakar Skin Clinic in Beverly Hills, as well as Sonya Dakar Skin Care, The Spa at The Palms will be the first spa on Turks & Caicos to provide Sonya Dakar spa services and carry the Sonya Dakar skin care products. Spa aficionados at The Spa at The Palms will have access to numerous therapies from the Sonya Dakar line, as well as the Beauty Boot Camp™ philosophy, a no-nonsense approach to skin care comprising two-step care:

1. Facial Fitness™ – a goal-oriented treatment designed to get skin in shape. Each treatment is customized to the client’s skin concerns using Sonya Dakar’s six skin care lines (acne, scarring, discoloration, irritation, anti-aging and maintenance). The results-oriented treatment involves cleansing, extraction, light exfoliation with pumpkin enzymes and treatment with a soft mask infused with essential oils and blue azulene extract to strengthen skin cells and improve elasticity.

2. Custom Green Tea Peel™ – Sonya Dakar’s own customized acid peel, this treatment is key to enhancing the effect of the Facial Fitness. Using a patented deep-exfoliation technology fusing lactic acid, green tea and wheat grass, this custom blend is a delicate yet effective peel aimed to leave skin brighter and glowing.

The Spa at The Palms, designed by Angel Stewart of Las Ventanas al Paraiso and Golden Door fame, features traditional massages on unique Mediterranean Float Beds, as well as facials, scrubs, wraps and infusions using the Temple Spa (UK) product line. Healing traditions from a variety of cultures use strong Mediterranean inspiration, as well as the uniquely created Zareeba therapy created by a Caribbean herbalist specifically for The Palms. Therapists at The Spa at The Palms offer value-added services during treatment times, continually working on guests. For example, once a face mask is applied, the therapist will then move onto the guest’s feet, scalp or shoulders for an unexpected treatment.

Inspired by the classic estates of Oliver Messel, The Palms is set amidst 12 acres of landscaped gardens at the centre of world-renowned 12-mile Grace Bay Beach. Its Luxury Room, one-, two- and three-bedroom suites feature balconies or expansive terraces, marble floors, vaulted ceilings, custom-made mahogany furnishings, 300-thread-count Anichini linens and high-speed Internet access. Each suite features combination DVD and CD players, as well as kitchens equipped with Viking appliances and classic cabinetry.

Additional resort features include a $1.8 million infinity pool; international cuisine at Parallel23 or Plunge restaurant and bar, with the choice of swim-up tables or a sunken dining room; and Conch Kritters Club for kids. On the beachfront, use of Hobie Cats, snorkel equipment, kayaks, windsurfs and floats are included in the room rate. Daily buffet breakfast is included in the price.
