Bonaire announces 2007 Bonaire Heineken Jazz Festival

Four-day jazz and salsa festival set for May 17-20


Kralendijk, Bonaire (March 23, 2007) – Escape to the Caribbean this spring and pair your love for jazz and salsa with your next Bonaire getaway. The Bonaire Jazz Foundation in cooperation with its event sponsors is pleased to announce the Bonaire Heineken Jazz Festival set to take place May 17-20, 2007.

A long weekend created especially for salsa and Caribbean jazz lovers, the Bonaire Heineken Jazz Festival features a welcome warm-up concert at Wilhelmina Park in Kralendijk on May 17; two main sessions at Plaza Resort (one per day on May 18 and 19); late-night jam sessions at Little Havana with artists from the ABC Islands, The Netherlands and the US; and a jazz brunch on May 20.

Among the bands already confirmed to participate in the festival are Affettuoso, a salsa band from Aruba; Gerardo Rosales, a salsa percussionist originally from Venezuela now living in Holland; Yuri Honing, a saxophonist from Holland, famous for his jazz renditions of pop songs; Jean-Jacques Rojer, a guitarist from Curaçao; The WES Group, a folk jazz and acoustic band from the US; Paoli Mejias, a salsa and Latin quintet from Puerto Rico; Oswin Chin Behilia & Band, world musicians from Curaçao; The Latin Quartet, featuring vocals, a guitar, a tenor sax and percussion; and Sound en Light, a prominent band from Curaçao.

The main events will take place at Plaza Resort Bonaire, with other events taking place at Little Havanna, Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino, Kas di Arte, Fort Oranje, Wilhelminaplein and Bongos Beach. There is an entrance fee of 50 Antillean guilders for the two main concerts; all other events are free.
