Explore Puerto Rico’s Porta del Sol region with package extras

Porta del Sol, Puerto Rico (April 25, 2007) – Catch a wave, bask in the sun and delight in the relaxed atmosphere of Porta del Sol with the Explore Porta del Sol package, a promotion from the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association and American Express. The package includes the net rate for participating hotels, daily continental breakfast and a $100 American Express gift card to be used in Puerto Rico. Additionally, visitors will receive a 15% discount in participating restaurants and even a free tank of gas when renting a car.

To take advantage of this promotion, travellers must visit the Porta del Sol region between April 12 and December 20, 2007. Blackout dates include the month of July, August 31 through September 3, 2007 and November 22-25, 2007. The Explore Porta del Sol package is based on a minimum stay of four nights and is subject to availability. Neither room tax nor gratuities are included.

Porta del Sol, the captivating and exotic western region of Puerto Rico, is easily accessible and features a wide variety of activities for visitors to choose from. From world-renowned surfing in Rincon to shopping for authentic crafts on the beautiful streets of Mayagüez to exploring the lush and exotic Guanica State Forest, there is something for everyone in Porta del Sol!

The nine properties participating in the Explore Porta del Sol package include Club Bon Accord, Lazy Parrot, The Pineapple Inn, Rincon Beach Resort and Rincon of the Seas, all in Rincon; Copamarina Beach Resort in Guanica; Holiday Inn Mayagüez and Mayagüez Resort, both in Mayagüez; and Villa Montana in Isabela.

The participating restaurant is Brasas Restaurant at the Rincon Beach Resort. Participating car rental companies include Avis and Hertz.

No passport is required to visit Puerto Rico from the United States. New passport regulations require all US citizens travelling outside of the country by air to present a valid passport at customs. This applies to every destination around the world, including Canada, Mexico and the entire Caribbean, with the exception of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Passport requirements for travel via sea (cruise) or land (Mexico & Canada via car, bus or train) take effect on January 1, 2008.
