Sun-seeking swimmers take on the world’s fastest, flattest ocean mile and compete for prizes valued up to US$25,000

New York, New York, USA (May 30, 2007) – On Saturday, June 16, 2007, swimmers from around the globe will meet in the Cayman Islands to participate in the 15th annual Flowers Sea Swim. The world-renowned one-mile open-water swim competition will host more than 500 local and international competitors racing along the shore of Grand Cayman’s pristine Seven Mile Beach.

Swimmers of all ages and ability levels – from novice to Olympic gold medallist – will compete in this exciting and charitable event. Prizes include US$25,000 awarded to the swimmer (male or female) who can set a new World Open Water Record, while US$5000 is up for grabs for the swimmer who breaks the current Cayman record. Other great prizes include Cayman Airways tickets, brunch at the Westin Casuarina Resort, gift certificates for water activities with Red Sails Sports and Atlantis Underwater Submarines and much more!

Past Olympic competitors in the Flowers Sea Swim have included Andrew Mackay (Caymanian, 2002 Commonwealth Games semi-finalist), Klete Keller (US, two time Short Course World Championships gold medallist), Chad Carvin (US, 1996 Olympic silver medallist and American record holder) and Dian Munz (US Olympic gold and silver medallist).

The fee for registration is CI$15, all of which goes towards the implementation of a young driver’s education program in the Cayman Islands. For more information on the Flowers Sea Swim visit flowersseaswim.com or pre-register at the Flowers Office in Grand Cayman anytime prior to June 16.
