CASA DE CAMPO LISTED AS ONE OF THE CARIBBEAN’S TOP 10 RESORTS; TEETH OF THE DOG NAMED ONE OF THE TOP 20 BEST GOLF COURSES
Casa de Campo has been ranked as one of the top 10 best resorts in the Caribbean while its featured golf course, Teeth of the Dog, has been listed as one of the top 20 best international courses (according to Celebrated Living magazine). WESTIN ROCO KI ANNOUNCES SPRING 2008 OPENING
The Westin Roco Ki Beach & Golf Resort located in Punta Cana recently announced plans to open its doors to the public in May 2008. Highlights of the resort include a championship golf course designed by Nick Faldo, six lit tennis courts and an 18,000 square foot spa. In addition, Roco Ki will feature diverse accommodations, including 56 condominium hotel suites and 20 Jungle Luxe bungalows. Furthermore, the resort will kick off a 10-year development plan of a premier residential vacation community that will include beach-side villas, a world-class marina, additional golf courses and retail shopping areas. AMERICAN AIRLINES ADDS SERVICE TO DR
In response to increasing demand for flights to the DR, American Airlines is adding service from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Santo Domingo effective December 13, 2007. The new route will feature one daily round-trip flight.

DISNEY CHOOSES DR AS HOST COUNTRY FOR EPCOT INTERNATIONAL FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL
The DR recently announced its plans to participate in Disney’s Epcot 2007 International Food & Wine Festival, a celebration showcasing the flavours of the world. The DR will be one of 25 host countries and will exhibit various elements of Dominican culture, including gastronomy, entertainment, artistry and history. The 12th Annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is set to take place September 28 to November 11, 2007 at Disney’s Epcot theme park in Florida.

NINTH ANNUAL JAZZ FESTIVAL CELEBRATED ALONG NORTH COAST
Jazz aficionados will travel from around the world October 20 to 23 to the DR’s ninth annual Jazz Festival held on the beaches of Puerto Plata, Cabarete and Sosua. The event features an impressive lineup of jazz musicians, including artists from the US, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the DR. For additional information call (809) 571-0882.

SANTO DOMINGO HOSTS ANNUAL MERENGUE FESTIVAL
Attracting the world’s top talent, Santo Domingo holds its annual Merengue Festival July 26 to July 29. Catch the action as the oldest city in the New World pulsates to the rhythms of merengue as the country’s top bands take to the city’s La Avenida del Puerto. Featured performers include Sergio Vargas, Rubby Perez, El Torito and many more.

DOMINICAN KITEBOARDER TAKES TITLE AT 2007 KITEBOARDING WORLD CUP
Cabarete was the fifth of 11 stops for the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association 2007 World Tour, which featured a range of talented riders representing countries such as the DR, England, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and more. In Cabarete, 15 year-old Ariel Corniel won first place and went home with a grand prize of $40,000. Dominican kiteboarders also defeated more than 100 participants to land the third and fourth place positions in the competition.

DOMINICAN BASKETBALL STAR THIRD PICK IN NBA DRAFT
Al Horford, the power forward from the University of Florida, became the ninth Dominican player in history to be selected in the yearly NBA draft. Being the first Dominican to win two national championships in Florida, Horford was chosen third in the draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Horford will reportedly have a three-year contract worth more than $3 million.

DR BASEBALL PLAYERS PROMINENT AT ALL-STAR GAME
Ten Dominican players, five from each of the American and National leagues, participated in the 2007 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 10 in San Francisco, California. Starting Dominican players representing the American League included David Ortiz, Placido Polanco, Alex Rodriguez and Vladamir Guerrero, who faced-off against National League starter Jose Reyes.
