Cayman Airways announces adjustments to route network
Houston, Chicago, New York, Tampa and Kingston, Jamaica routes affected
George Town, Grand Cayman, BWI (August 10, 2007) – Cayman Airways, the national flag carrier of the Cayman Islands, will execute the second stage of its new flight schedule plan with the introduction of its winter schedule effective November 9, 2007. The initial stage was implemented on June 23 with the introduction of service to New York’s JFK Airport and increased frequency to Miami and Tampa, Florida and Kingston, Jamaica.
According to CEO Patrick Strasburger, “This important second stage includes resumption of seasonal service to Chicago with two weekly frequencies; northbound on Wednesdays and Saturdays; southbound on Thursdays and Sundays. Our New York service will initially increase to four weekly frequencies effective November 9th, and a fifth weekly flight will be added February 9th for service throughout the peak winter season.”
Other amendments to the airline schedule include daily service to Tampa and an increase in service to Kingston, Jamaica from 12 to 14 weekly flights.
“In order to facilitate these more popular and lucrative routes, Cayman Airways will be suspending service to Houston,” said Strasburger, who added, “Service was already suspended during the off-peak September/October time frame; however, advance booking reports indicated low forecasted loads throughout the peak winter season. The airline does not expect to re-enter the market in the medium term, but rather to instead concentrate on successful, more productive routes for the airline.”
Continental Airlines has confirmed it will continue to provide non-stop service to its hub in Houston with continuing service to the US west coast along with key destinations in Texas and Louisiana. Cayman Airways is working closely with Continental Airlines and other airline partners to re-book ticketed passengers both to Houston and those connecting over Houston. Those ticketed passengers will be personally contacted by Cayman Airways Reservations.
In addition, Cayman Airways is establishing interlining agreements with Continental Airlines to allow competitive through fares for travel continuing via Grand Cayman to the Sister Islands using Cayman Airways or Cayman Airways Express. This way passengers travelling from Houston gateways and continuing to the Sister Islands will continue to have seamless ticketing.
As the national flag carrier of the Cayman Islands, Cayman Airways’ schedule includes non-stop Boeing 737 jet service between Chicago, Orlando, Tampa, Miami, New York and Grand Cayman, and jet service to Cayman Brac, as well as Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica and Havana, Cuba. Cayman Airways also operates frequent daily turbo-prop services via Cayman Airways Express between the three Cayman Islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.
