Riviera Maya voted best Mexico destination

The Riviera Maya wins best destination in Mexico at the 2007 travel weekly readers choice awards

PRESS RELEASE - 2008

New York, New York (December 17, 2007) - The readers of Travel Weekly have spoken and the Riviera Maya has been named "Best in Destinations" in the Mexico category at the magazine's fifth annual Readers Choice Awards for the fourth year in a row.

Taking home the top honor again this year, the Riviera Maya placed ahead of other Mexican hot spots including Cancun, Cozumel, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

"It is an honor for the Riviera Maya to be recognized as the top place to visit in all of Mexico," commented Javier Aranda Pedrero, Director of the Riviera Maya Tourism Promotions Board. "As reflected in our Paradise is Forever? slogan, The Riviera Maya will always be the best place to make dreams come true."

This past spring and summer, Travel Weekly readers cast their votes in fifty-one categories from airlines and hotels to cruise lines, tour operators an destinations through an online open-ballot process. Candidates in each category were selected as finalists representing the highest standards of service and excellence and readers were asked to identify those travel industry leaders that demonstrated the most outstanding product and service over the past twelve months.

Winners of the Readers Choice Awards 2007 were announced on December 13, 2007 at the annual Awards Gala, held this year at the Pierre Hotel in New York City. The winners in all categories will be featured in the January 21, 2008 issue of Travel Weekly.

Easily accessible from many cities throughout the U.S., the eighty-one mile stretch known as the Riviera Maya is situated in the Mexican Caribbean on the coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Beginning eleven miles south of Cancun International Airport in Puerto Morelos, the Riviera Maya extends to Felipe Carillo Puerto, a small town near the Sian Ka, a Biosphere Reserve.

The region features the tranquility of uncrowded beaches, a vast network of underground rivers, over 100 cenotes, the action of eco-adventure sports including kayaking, mountain biking, scuba diving, snorkeling, trekking, bird watching and deep sea fishing, proximity to many of Mexico's most significant Mayan archeological sites, the varied activities of the eco-archeological parks, plus golf courses, spas, shopping, gourmet dining and a range of accommodations to suit every lifestyle and budget.

The Riviera Maya has been named a Top Destination in Mexico for four consecutive years by Travel Weekly (2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007) and was also featured in the January 2006 issue of Travel + Leisure as "The Next Riviera."
