Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas - Family vacations have never been so easy. Parents can relax while kids keep busy at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort’s Camp Lucaya. Located on Grand Bahama Island, the resort features the sister hotels, The Westin and Sheraton, four themed freshwater pools, a full-service spa and fitness center, casino, and plenty of land and water activities to keep everyone happy.
Located at The Sheraton, Camp Lucaya is a full-service, interactive kid’s center, featuring 3,000 square feet of activity space and classrooms. The fun-filled camp for children ages three to 12 delivers a menu of exciting experiences, from beach Olympics to island-inspired activities such as Junkanoo parades, limbo, and native dancing. Kids can choose from a variety of Bahamian activities, including shell and Junkanoo mask painting, coconut crafts, sand sculpture building, and straw weaving taught by local artisans.
Camp Lucaya also makes learning fun. Instructors entertain with stories about the Lucayan Indians - the island’s first settlers - and lead the kids in native dances like the quadrille and rake ‘n scrape. Kids can also learn how to make island music with goat-skinned drums, conch shells, and cowbells. Pirate treasure hunts, pool games, and mini tennis tournaments are also on the list of popular activities.
Camp Lucaya is open daily from 9am to 5pm and Thursday to Sunday from 6pm to 10pm for both Westin and Sheraton guests. Lunch is included in both half-day sessions (4 hours) and full-day sessions (8 hours), which include snacks and drinks throughout the day. The evening session includes dinner.
In addition to Camp Lucaya, kids can also cool off at the Sugar Mill pool waterslide, where waterfalls cascade from massive stone-pillared ruins of the Bahamas’ earlier days. By dialing ext. 5437 (KIDS), children can listen to more than 30 pre-recorded stories. And upon check-in, all kids receive a welcome bag with a Kids Club hat and plastic cup that can be refilled free of charge at any resort restaurant.
For infants and children up to three years old, Grandma Lucaya’s nursery services are available seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. There is a two-hour limit on all infant care and the nursery closes for lunch daily from 12 noon to 1pm.
This 372-acre, 1,260-room Caribbean resort has plenty of attractions for parents as well.
