St. Maarten’s Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino announces new rates for 2006

Newly renovated resort in the Caribbean includes refurbished suites and a new Italian restaurant

Philipsburg, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles (December 19, 2005) – The newly renovated Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino, overlooking the Great Bay Harbour in Dutch St. Maarten, announces its new rates for 2006 and introduces its new Italian restaurant and new food and beverage director.

Last year the resort began a $10 million renovation that included its 52 suites, which have since been closed. Following a complete rebuild and refurbishment the suites are due to reopen in early 2006. The property also offers 210 rooms in addition to the suites, and features the Golden Casino, three restaurants and four bars, three swimming pools, the Vitality Oasis Health Club and Spa services, floodlit tennis court, meeting facilities, water sports, and nightly entertainment.

Great Bay Beach Resort’s 2006 rates, effective January 2 through April 14, 2006, range from $240 to $625 per room, per night for the resort’s EP plan and from $205 to $440 per person, per night for the resort’s all-inclusive plan. All-inclusive rates include accommodations, breakfast, lunch, dinner, unlimited drinks and cocktails by the glass, resort taxes and surcharges, live nightly entertainment, and a $10 Match-Play casino voucher.

The resort recently appointed Ramesh Poredi as the new director of food and beverage, responsible for overseeing all operations of all of the resort’s restaurants. An executive chef by trade, Poredi has been in the hospitality industry since the early 1980s when he launched his career at the Park Lane Hilton in London. He soon worked his way up to executive sous chef at the Abu Dhabi Hilton where he spent six years cultivating the hotel’s creative cuisine. He joined Great Bay Beach Resort & Casino after serving as food and beverage manager in the Toronto area for Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

Poredi has been instrumental in the launch of Great Bay Beach Resort’s new Italian restaurant, La Cucina, which means The Kitchen in English. "La Cucina will be a step up from the other two restaurants we currently have at the resort providing guests with an opportunity to experience fine Italian dining the St. Maarten way," says general manager, Renato Moretto. Entrée prices range from $12.75 to $22. Located off the resort’s Lobby Bar, the restaurant is open for dinner from 7pm to 10:30pm.
