Annual Bonaire dive festival expands to include eco-adventure activities

Dive Into Adventure Bonaire 2006 scheduled for June 17–24

Kralendijk, Bonaire (January 3, 2006) – Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) and its stakeholders in conjunction with event sponsor Scuba Diving magazine are pleased to announce that Dive Into Adventure Bonaire 2006 will take place June 17–24, 2006. The event will focus on scuba diving and the adventure of the sport, while also incorporating increasingly popular eco-adventure activities.

Open to divers, snorkellers, nature lovers and adventurers around the world, building on the successes of the past seven Bonaire Dive Festivals and recognizing Bonaire not only as a dive destination but also as an eco-adventure destination, Dive Into Adventure Bonaire will take the event to a new level. Keeping with the primary goal of providing an event where divers and snorkellers can experience Bonaire’s natural treasures and find out what they can do to help protect them, this event will focus on diving and marine conservation, but will be enhanced with a number of adventure elements.

The event schedule will feature daily diving as well as land- and water-based adventure activities such as kayaking, windsurfing, kiteboarding, landsailing and mountain biking. To showcase the adventure of scuba diving, every morning and afternoon participants will also have the option of joining in a host of dive-related adventure activities such as digital photography workshops, technical diving, underwater videography and free diving. Each evening participants will come together for parties, beach barbecues and presentations by featured speakers. Additionally, as in years past, the week-long event will kickoff with A Taste of Bonaire, featuring local food and music, and presentations by local dignitaries.

“After an extensive review and re-evaluation of the Bonaire Dive Festival and in an effort to keep up with the evolving travel marketplace, it was decided that the event needed to be expanded,” says Ronella Croes, Director of TCB. “Adding more adventure activities and focusing on the adventure of diving was a natural evolution for the event, as was keeping the focus on how people can protect their natural surroundings whether scuba diving or kayaking.”

Official US tour operators for the event include BonairePros.com (tel 1-800-748-8733), Caradonna Caribbean Adventures (tel 1-800-328-2288) and Maduro Dive Fanta-Seas (tel 1-800-327-6709). Host hotels for the event include Captain Don’s Habitat (tel 599/717-8290), Golden Reef Inn (tel 1-866-790-7333 or 599/717-5759), Plaza Resort Bonaire (tel 1-800-766-6016 or 599/717-2500), Port Bonaire (tel 599/717-2451), and Sand Dollar Condominium Resort (tel 1-888-362-6043 or 599-717-8738). The official airline for Dive Into Adventure Bonaire 2006 is Air Jamaica (tel 1-800-523-5585). More information can be found on the Dive Into Adventure Bonaire 2006 website, including the complete schedule of activities, and details on any future tour operators that may be added.

Located eighty-six miles east of Aruba, the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire offers year-round sunshine, pristine coral formations and the most thriving fish population in the Caribbean. Ideal for adventurers, explorers and sun worshippers alike, Bonaire offers myriad eco-adventure activities, including world renowned scuba diving and snorkelling, windsurfing, kiteboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, nature tours, hiking, bird watching, sailing and fishing.
