Montpelier Plantation Inn welcomes food and wine lovers with special packages

Luxury resort to host a Relais & Chateaux dinner during the week-long Nevis International Culinary Heritage Exposition

Nevis, West Indies (July 10, 2006) – Gastronomes from around the world are invited to join Montpelier Plantation Inn, a Relais & Chateaux and AAA Four Diamond property, in celebrating the charms of Nevis as the island hosts its second annual Nevis International Culinary Heritage Exposition (NICHE) October 18-25, 2006. A week-long celebration of food, wine and Caribbean culture, NICHE features a number of culinary events, including a gourmet dinner at Montpelier Plantation Inn on Saturday October 21, 2006. The menu will be prepared by executive chef Janice Ryan, and the chef from St Barts’ Eden Roc, a fellow Relais & Chateaux hotel.

Boasting two gourmet restaurants – The Terrace, AAA Four Diamond restaurant and The Mill, an intimate setting situated in an 18th century sugar mill – and an extensive wine cellar, Montpelier Plantation Inn is the ideal retreat for food and wine lovers.

In celebration of NICHE, Montpelier is offering two special packages valid October 7-31, 2006. The Pressed for Time Package includes five nights for the price of four, a $50 food and beverage credit and vintage rum tasting. The Found the Time Package includes seven nights for the price of five, a $75 food and beverage credit, vintage rum tasting, one candlelight dinner in the historic Mill restaurant and a one-hour couples massage. Both packages include daily full English cooked breakfast; daily afternoon tea; welcoming rum punch; fresh fruit in guest room daily; nightly turn-down service; concierge service; complimentary transportation to Montpelier’s private Caribbean beach with lounge chairs, showers and sun shelters; complimentary snorkelling and tennis equipment; and Internet services.

NICHE activities take place October 18-25, 2006, and include cooking demonstrations by local and international chefs; a beachside bartender competition; a food festival in historic Charlestown, Nevis’ capital; a catamaran cruise to the neighbouring island of St Kitts; a champagne dinner sponsored by Moet et Chandon; a Caribbean brunch featuring the “Chefs of Nevis” showing how to prepare their signature dishes; a wine and cheese session with Marc Refabert, founder of Fromages.com, Europe’s leading on-line source of top-quality cheeses; and parties. Most activities will take place at Nevis’ hotels. The cost to participate in NICHE is $410 per person for any three days of the program or $900 per person for the seven-day program. Airfare and accommodations are additional. For more information on NICHE call 1-869-469-7550 toll free.

Known for its quiet elegance, refined charm and personal service, Montpelier Plantation Inn is a secluded retreat catering to discerning travellers. One of the newest members of Relais & Chateaux, this intimate and charming hideaway is owned and managed by the Hoffman family. Years of living in Europe, Asia, The Bahamas, America and experiencing various cultures and traditions have led the Hoffmans to create a refined yet relaxed atmosphere that immediately makes their guests feel at ease, as if among friends and family. Nestled amongst thirty acres of landscaped gardens and dotted with pieces from the family’s private furniture collection, décor throughout the property is classical island elegance.

Montpelier offers 17 well-appointed guest rooms, including one suite, each with a canopy or four-poster bed complemented by luxurious Porthault linens, and a private veranda affording commanding views of the Caribbean Sea and surrounding countryside. Awash in tranquility, there are no televisions, radios or clocks in the guest rooms, fresh fruit and flowers are provided in-room daily and the resort’s professional and attentive staff ensures that guests are well cared for.

Free from the daily distractions and hectic pace of modern living, and with relaxation in mind, guests can spend their days enjoying Montpelier’s cool hillside setting with the exquisite hand-laid 60-foot mosaic-tiled pool, manicured gardens, reading gazebo, tennis court and complimentary afternoon tea, or Montpelier by the Sea, the hotel’s private two-acre beach located a short distance away complete with sun gazebos and barman. A host of other activities can be arranged.

In the evening guests can choose between Montpelier’s two gourmet restaurants: the AAA Four Diamond Terrace restaurant overlooking the nightlights of Charlestown and nearby St Kitts, and The Mill, a small and intimate restaurant located in the plantation’s original 18th century sugar mill. While each restaurant features different prix fixe menus both use locally grown produce, fruit and herbs from the hotel’s gardens, freshly caught fish, Montpelier-raised pigs and European ingredients flown in as needed, and draw upon the hotel’s extensive wine cellar to create unforgettable dining experiences. Prior to dinner each evening guests are invited to gather in the Great Room for canapés, drinks and comfortable conversation.

In 2005 Montpelier Plantation Inn was rated the number two luxury hotel in the Caribbean in the 2005 Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. It was also ranked #33 in the Top 100 Luxury – World list. Ratings are compiled based on user reviews and ratings.

Easily accessible from major US gateways with connecting service to Nevis, Montpelier Plantation Inn’s 2006 room rates inclusive of breakfast and afternoon tea start at $280 per room, per night.
