Cayman Islands hosts post-DEMA events in 2007

Special events and packages available for divers and families


Orlando, Florida, USA (November 10, 2006) – The Cayman Islands is delighted to welcome dive aficionados for three popular scuba diving events – Digital Jam, the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame awards and the International Underwater Film Festival – which all take place on Grand Cayman in the months following the DEMA (Dive Equipment and Marketing Association) Show 2006, held November 8-11 in Orlando, Florida.

Digital Jam – January 13-20, 2007
Divers are invited to gather in Grand Cayman for a week of diving, shooting photo and video and testing out some of the newest underwater image technology available. A world-class underwater photographer will conduct an exciting range of photo clinics and workshops suitable for experts and new enthusiasts alike. Editing seminars will also be available for those with their own editing equipment. By the end of the week all involved will be ready to enter into the friendly competition with more than $20,000 in prizes being awarded. International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame (ISDHOF) awards – January 25, 2007
The dive community will unite and recognize five individuals – Neville Coleman, Rodney Fox, Paul Humann, Carl Roessler and Ralph Erickson – for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields. This year’s recipients will join the likes of past inductees Lloyd Bridges, Jacques Yves Cousteau, Zale Parry, John Cronin, Chuck Blakeslee and Jim Auxier.

International Underwater Film Festival – January 26, 2007
Diving and movie buffs have the chance to revel in the surreal beauty of world-class underwater photography and film during the film festival to be held at The Grand Cayman Marriot Beach Resort. Work from several luminaries will be showcased, including Rodney Fox of “great white shark” fame, Australia; Carl Roessler, world dive travel pioneer and photographer; Al Giddings, presenting Titanic, whales and Cuba; Neville Colman, prolific photographer and publisher, Australia and the Pacific; and Cayman photo pro contest winners. Inner Space – May 19-26, 2007
The world’s largest rebreather event will be hosted in Grand Cayman by Divetech at Cobalt Coast Resort, marking a week of closed circuit rebreather diving. Packages are available for divers wishing to get certified at the recreational, normoxic or advanced trimix level. For those already certified CCR divers, Inner Space is a week of exploration on the deep walls of Cayman, with seminars, new equipment testing, daily live video and photography and more. Rogest Art Down Under Week – June 23-30, 2007
Hosted by Ron Stephen, internationally renown marine artist, diving and art synchronize with a week of morning diving, afternoon painting, evening wine and cheese hours and an auction of one of the participants’ original canvases. Ocean-inspired art gets a little help from Rogest, and aspiring artists’ creations raise funds for the Coral Reef Awareness Program, benefiting children in Cayman. Kids Sea Camp – Week 1: July 14-21, 2007; Week 2: July 21-28, 2007
For the fourth year, Divetech at Cobalt Coast Resort will host families with children for the Kids Sea Camp in Grand Cayman July 14-21 and July 21-28, 2007. While parents are out freely exploring the walls and reefs of Cayman, kids are enrolled in water-based programs to learn to dive.
