Negril, Jamaica resort named among top luxury hotels

The Caves placed among Top 10 Caribbean and Top 100 World Luxury Hotels in TripAdvisor’s 2006 Traveler’s Choice Awards

Jamaica (February 1, 2007) – Famed as a funky and intimate escape, The Caves in Negril, Jamaica, is a haven for celebs and lovers of luxury. Now, for the third consecutive year, leading travel research website TripAdvisor has distinguished The Caves as a top luxury hotel in the TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Overall Hotel List for 2006.

The Caves was voted among Top 10 Best Luxury – Latin America/Caribbean hotels and was the only Jamaican hotel to make the Top 100 in 100 Best Luxury – World, ranking 58th.

“There’s no better measurement for our success than positive feedback from real travellers,” said Phyllis Somer, general manager of The Caves. “We are overwhelmed by this honour and will continue to maintain our high levels of standards and service in a fun, sensual environment.”

The TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice list is unlike any other hotel awards program. Winners are uniquely selected by millions of travellers from around the world who provide real and unbiased interviews or opinions. Articles, guidebook listings, web comments and TripAdvisor member reviews – written by more than 10 million worldwide visitors each month – all factor into a hotel’s ranking.

At the Caves, the volcanic cliff is honeycombed with grottoes: one strewn with flowers and candlelit for intimate dining, another harbouring a bubbling hot tub, others just portals into the crystal-clear sea below, populated by dolphins, parrot fish and sea turtles. Serenity holds sway here, where the coral reefs, cliff crags and lush Jamaican vegetation merge.

Ten handcrafted cottages nestle into this verdant landscape, crowned by a petite Aveda spa. Each cottage is unique, harmoniously blending local wood, stone and thatch. The furnishings reflect the same simple aesthetic: high ceilings soar above custom-made wood and bamboo furniture brightened by bold island colours.

Small wonder The Caves was previously named the best hotel in the Caribbean by TripAdvisor. The exclusive magazine Robb Report also celebrated this resort among the World’s 10 Great Escapes in March 2004: “Outside, turquoise water laps languidly against rocky cliffs, recalling the Caribbean before high-tech hotels vanquished the landscape and personal watercraft disturbed the calm.”

Rates for The Caves start at $765 per night based on double occupancy and include breakfast, lunch, dinner, house wine and spirits, taxes and gratuity. Only children age 16 and up are permitted in order to maintain the intimacy of the resort.

For reservations call 1-800-OUTPOST or see their accommodation listing under Jamaica – Negril at www.caribbean.com.
