St Croix snorkelling rated among world’s best

Readers of Pathfinders Travel magazine choose St Croix, USVI as the world’s Best Place to Snorkel

St Croix, US Virgin Islands (February 2, 2007) – Readers of Pathfinders Travel: The Travel Magazine for People of Color named the southern coast of St Croix as the “Best Place to Snorkel” in the world. St Croix was selected for this top honour in a readers’ survey of the world’s most distinctive travel destinations. Readers’ choice results appeared in an article entitled “The Black List: The Best of Pathfinders,” published in the January/February 2007 issue.

“We are absolutely thrilled,” said Monique Sibilly-Hodge, Acting Commissioner of Tourism for the United States Virgin Islands. “The people of St Croix and all of the US Virgin Islands take pride in our award-winning beaches and crystal-blue waters. We are honoured to be chosen as having the world’s best snorkelling by readers who have experienced the natural resources of America’s Caribbean first hand.”

The January/February 2007 issue also features a six-page article on the US Virgin Islands by journalist Rosalind Cummings-Yeates. Titled “Rediscovering the Distinctive Character of the US Virgin Islands,” it delves into the history, character, style and vibe of St Croix, St John and St Thomas. Cummings-Yeates travelled to the territory during a trip hosted by the Department of Tourism in May 2006.

For the past decade, Pathfinders, a bimonthly magazine based in Philadelphia, has sent its editors around the globe in search of exciting destinations, memorable experiences and meaningful stories of particular interest to people of colour.
