St. Kitts Marriott Resort enjoys stellar first full year of operation

St. Kitts Marriott Resort created quite a buzz, drawing the attention of both celebrities and media.

Basseterre, St. Kitts (January 3, 2005) – The St. Kitts Marriott Resort and The Royal Beach Casino hit the ground running in 2004, its first full calendar year of operation, and the impact is being felt across the island.

Although the resort opened in early 2003, two very important projects, key to the resort’s success, opened in 2004. Early in the year, the resort celebrated the opening of the Emerald Mist Spa. The 15,000-square-foot spa features health, beauty and therapeutic programs, total body care, hair/nail care and a health club with state-of-the-art strength training equipment and fitness classes.

In addition, the two-year renovation of the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club was completed in November. Now managed by Marriott Golf Management, the “links style” course’s completed redesign makes it one of the best conditioned and most scenic courses in the Caribbean. The course redesign was managed by award-winning Canadian course architect Thomas McBroom. The club is now fully-operational for individual, group and tournament play and features an all-new clubhouse.

The resort created quite a buzz, drawing the attention of both celebrities and media. Among the well-known guests who visited the resort in 2004 were former President Bill Clinton, former New York City Mayor David Dinkins, New York State Representative Charles Rangel and tennis/fashion superstar Anna Kournikova.

The resort also received media coverage throughout the US, Canada, Caribbean and UK. Well known media outlets including the Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald, New York Daily News, Links Magazine and Caribbean Travel & Life were among the many who published stories about the resort. In addition, journalists from The Golf Channel, First For Women Magazine, Fitness Magazine and Golf Digest were among a large group of media who visited the resort during 2004.

During the most recent three-month period, 87 per cent of the resort's guests reported that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the resort and their experience during their stay. Most importantly, during this same time period, 71 per cent of the resort's guests reported that they plan to return to the resort in the future.

Currently, the resort employs more than 875 associates. Each Marriott Hotel, on a worldwide basis, performs an annual Associate Opinion Survey, administered by a third party, to gauge the satisfaction of their associates regarding a number of criteria. In 2004, the resort enjoyed a 74 per cent overall associate satisfaction rate. With the busy high season just around the corner, the resort expects to expand its staff even further to meet customer needs.

The successful year for the resort was culminated when the Ministry of Tourism named the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and The Royal Beach Casino Hotel of the Year for 2004. In addition, Mr. Arbon Arthurton, the resort’s doorman, was recognized as Customer Service Agent of the Year.

The positive momentum appears to be continuing in 2005, with a high number of advance bookings already scheduled. An area of growth will be in the group business segment which will bring higher numbers of guests to the resort and island, resulting in increased economic impact for the area.

The St. Kitts Marriott Resort and The Royal Beach Casino is located in the resort area of Frigate Bay on the windward side of St. Kitts Island in the Eastern Caribbean. The resort offers 636 guest rooms, suites and garden houses, a swim-up bar, three swimming pools, the 35,000-square-foot Royal Beach Casino, the 15,000-square-foot full-service Emerald Mist Spa, 38,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space and the newly renovated Royal St. Kitts Golf Club.

The St. Kitts Marriott Resort and The Royal Beach Casino is a member of Marriott and Renaissance Caribbean & Mexico Resorts, comprised of eight resorts in seven locations throughout the Caribbean and Mexico.
