Jamaica resort hosts successful JAPEX 2007

Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa ideal convention and meeting venue with the island’s largest meeting facilities

Ocho Rios, Jamaica (May 2, 2007) – Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa, the legendary 730-room, all-inclusive resort in Ocho Rios, hosted the 17th annual Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) from April 29–May 1, 2007. This was the first time that many industry decision makers experienced the newly renovated property.

“It was an extreme honour to host JAPEX 2007 at Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa. Our team at Sunset Resorts worked very hard to ensure that the event was seamless and productive for all involved,” said Sunset Resorts managing director, Ian Kerr. “Jamaican owned and Jamaican run, Sunset Resorts offers the true Jamaican experience. It was a natural fit to host Jamaica’s key partners and showcase the spirit and sensibility of what Jamaica has to offer to travellers across the globe.”

Daniel Rice, market manager, Caribbean for Orbitz Worldwide said, “The Sunset Jamaica Grande is to be commended for its phenomenal execution of JAPEX 2007. With the friendliness of the staff, delicious food, beautiful meeting space and top-notch events, the event was both enjoyable and productive.”

The entire staff pulled out all the stops to make this leading industry event a success. Sunset Resorts’ corporate executive chef, Jose Riquelme, Sunset Jamaica Grande’s executive sous chef and the entire Sunset culinary team created a journey of gastronomic delights for JAPEX delegates to enjoy on opening night. From sushi, tapas, fresh seafood and authentic Jamaican cuisine, nobody left hungry! Martini bars, champagne bars and tropical fruit cocktails and beverages were welcome libations.

Entertainment was equally impressive with the musical talent of Rory Frankson, the 50 Fifty Band and capped by the unveiling of the Lighthouse Waterslide with a laser light show and what many called the “best fireworks display they have ever seen!”

Over the course of the three-day event, Jamaica’s travel industry partners utilized the Grande Hall as a forum in which to interact and discuss the industry in a dynamic, professional setting. From leading suppliers of Jamaica tourism products to travel wholesalers and tour operators from Europe and the Americas, Sunset Jamaica Grande hosted the best in the business.

Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa was the ideal venue for JAPEX 2007. The splendour of the 730-room resort with its spectacular variety of new amenities, five restaurants, two beach grills, eight bars, spa and stellar location played host to hundreds of delegates from around the world.

Sunset Jamaica Grande also boasts the island’s largest meeting facilities, with more than 32,000 square feet of floor space. Countless outdoor areas for receptions and private dinners, including many beachfront locations, along with a top-notch catering team ensure every event is truly memorable.

Sunset Jamaica Grande inaugurated the exciting new Lighthouse Waterslide on the opening night and the new attraction is set to become a landmark along the Ocho Rios coastline. Architecturally designed like a traditional lighthouse, the new attraction is nothing like its counterparts! Impressively statuesque, guests climb an enclosed spiral staircase 60 feet up to an observation desk with an awe-inspiring, 360-degree panoramic view over the Caribbean Sea and the entire resort complex. Two separate, full-body waterslides – one enclosed and one open, and each a whopping 330 and 340 feet in length, respectively – twist and turn around the lighthouse for a shooting good time. After zooming down the slide, guests refresh with a splash arriving in one of the resort’s swimming pools or overlooking the azure blue sea. The lower level of the Lighthouse includes an air-conditioned arcade featuring a variety of video games.
