Discover Jamaica’s hidden gems and masterpieces

Island Outpost’s Goldeneye boutique hotel offers custom Sea Safari packages

Oracabessa, Jamaica (May 16, 2007) – Island Outpost’s Goldeneye recently announced its Sea Safari packages, providing ample opportunities for a man – or woman – of action. This season, Goldeneye’s custom Sea Safaris provide the adventurous and curious traveller a thrilling discovery via Jet Ski, kayak, speedboat or glass-bottom boat. Dramatic coastline with secret coves and private beaches, tropical forests and mangroves, enchanting waterfalls – it’s all waiting to be discovered.

“I first learned about the bottom of the sea from the reefs around my property and that has added a new dimension to my view of the world,” said Ian Fleming, creator of the 20th century’s most suave agent, 007 – James Bond. Fleming wrote 13 spy novels at Goldeneye and he often delighted in the landscape’s richness and praised its natural beauty as the “most healthy life I could live.”

With Sea Safaris, explorers skim past flying fish and breeze through the waves daringly while discovering exquisite untouched landscape. A half-day Sea Safari to Tacky Falls reveals a pristine black-sand beach and waterfalls that can only be accessed by sea. Upon arriving, local guides meet guests and offer freshly picked fruit such as the famous noni, known for its incredible healing properties. Aloe is offered for the sun-sore, as well as the exotic oteheite, the Jamaican apple, which has a taste like a sugary apple and a consistency of a pear. Guides lead guests on a 10-minute hike to Tacky Falls where a waterfall drops into a pool of clear, blue water. Swimming here is a must as the energy of the water is far too alluring to sit back and watch.

Going west past Ocho Rios, guests may head to Laughing Waters, which is the deserted beach where Ursula Andress made her unforgettable entrance from the sea in “Dr No” wearing that signature white bikini. Or for the more sublime, Kayaking Safaris take birdwatchers around a mangrove-edged island where egrets, hummingbirds and red-headed woodpeckers call home.

A permanent part of Goldeneye’s amenities for guests, Sea Safari packages offer a selection of choices for every traveller as follows:

• The half-day Jet Ski Safari to either Tacky Falls or Laughing Waters starts at US$200 per person.
• The two-hour Speedboat Safari starts at US$500 (+$200 per hour after the first two hours). The boat can comfortably hold approximately six to eight passengers.
• Use of kayaks and the glass-bottom boat are offered complimentary to guests staying at Goldeneye.

Guests who book a speedboat can enjoy a gourmet picnic with champagne, signature Goldeneye cocktails and Jamaica’s Red Stripe beer upon arriving at their location. Prices are available upon request.

Today, Fleming’s retreat is a boutique resort, intimate and informal with four idyllic villas on a seaside bluff facing the blue Caribbean Sea. A holiday at Goldeneye is an opportunity to immerse oneself in nature and stimulate passions and curiosities about the natural world and a different culture.

This summer rates start at $750 per night for a one-bedroom villa and $2,800 to live like James Bond in the Ian Fleming villa (sleeps six). Rates are based on single or double occupancy and include all meals and beverages.
