Supermodels in The Bahamas

The Islands Of The Bahamas Strikes a Pose on the Cover of the 2005 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

NASSAU, The Bahamas, February 15, 2005, – The tropical climate isn’t the only thing that’s sizzling in The Islands Of The Bahamas… The highly anticipated 2005 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, unveiled today, boasts a stunning cover of super model Carolyn Murphy shot on location on Kamalame Cay, a 96-acre private island and resort located adjacent to Andros Island in The Bahamas Out Islands.

“We are extremely honored to have landed the cover of such a high-profile and coveted issue,” said Obie Wilchcombe, Minister of Tourism for The Islands Of The Bahamas. “This has been a tremendous year for The Bahamas with Condé Nast Traveler naming us “The HOT Island” in the May 2004 “Hot-List” issue, followed by the “Red-Hot Bahamas” cover story in the November 2004 issue of Travel + Leisure. We always believed that our picture-perfect beaches made The Bahamas a HOT destination and I am pleased that the magazine world agrees. I encourage visitors to strike their own pose during a Bahamas vacation.”

Cover girl Carolyn Murphy joined super models Frankie Rayder, Anne V. and Bahamian Shakara Ledard for the Kamalame Cay shoot, which took place in October 2004. The 2005 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue marks the fourth time Nassau native Shakara Ledard has appeared in the annual issue.

Also included in the 2005 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue are stunning photos of gold-medal Olympic athlete Jennie Finch, shot in The Bahamas Out Island of Exuma. The November 2004 shoot took place along the pristine beaches of host hotel Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma at Emerald Bay and on Stocking Island. Jennie returned to The Bahamas February 11-14 to host a softball clinic for children on Grand Bahama. While there, she donned a swimsuit once again, but this time to swim with Dolphins at the UNEXSO Marine Sanctuary.

For more than 40 years, the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue has proven to be one of the most highly anticipated issues of the year, drawing an estimated 4.5 million readers. In addition, each year Sports Illustrated produces a “Behind the Scenes and On-Location” special that is sold to cable networks including ESPN and Spike TV and should prominently feature footage from both shoots in The Bahamas. The 2005 issue featuring The Islands Of The Bahamas hits newsstands on February 15, 2005.
