New Courtyard by Marriott hotel planned for Puerto Rico in 2007

Moderately priced, 150-room hotel to be located in Aguadilla

Washington, DC, USA (September 30, 2005) - Marriott International has announced that its third Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Puerto Rico will open in 2007. The venture is under a franchise agreement with Hotel Punta Borinquen, Inc., which is owned by prominent Puerto Rican businessman, Jesus Ruiz.

Located in Aguadilla, the hotel will be immediately adjacent to the Rafael Hernandez International Airport. The Courtyard by Marriott Aguadilla will have a restaurant and lounge, swimming pool, fitness facility, tennis court, casino, and 2,400 square feet of meeting space in addition to outdoor function areas. Other amenities will include a gift shop and several other retail outlets.

Aguadilla features a number of historic sites, including the Punta Borinquen Lighthouse and the Plaza del Recreo, which are included in the National Registry of Historic Places. Other popular local attractions include surfing beaches, scuba diving, and nature-oriented activities.

“We’re delighted with the continued growth of our portfolio in Puerto Rico and the expansion of our Courtyard brand on the island,” says Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “Our moderately priced Courtyard lodging brand has been well received in San Juan and we are pleased to be able to introduce it in another Puerto Rican city.”

Puerto Rico Tourism Industry Executive Director Terestella Gonzalez-Denton was present at the franchise agreement signing. She expressed the Commonwealth’s support for Marriott’s development initiatives in Puerto Rico. Aguadilla Major Carlos Mendez also commended Marriott international’s interest in the city’s continued growth and development.

“We have devoted our efforts and resources to bringing to the western part of Puerto Rico the best, most respected and fastest growing hotel brand: Courtyard by Marriott,” says Jesus Ruiz, president of the Board of Directors of Hotel Punta Borinquen. “This hotel will help put Aguadilla and its international airport on the world map. Courtyard by Marriott Aguadilla is two minutes from the airport, one minute from sunset, and just in paradise.”

Marriott International's other hotels in Puerto Rico are the 525-room San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and the 256-room Courtyard Isla Verde Beach Resort. Soon to open are the 139-room Courtyard Miramar and the 248-room Renaissance La Concha, both of which are in San Juan.
