What is the population?
The population of Saba is 1,500.

How big is the country/island?
Saba is five sq miles.

Can I drink the tap water?
The tap water is safe to drink.

What are the best things to buy here?
For duty-free shopping you should go to St Maarten.

For souvenirs with local flavour look for the unique Saba lace, linen with threadwork designs, paintings and photographs by local artists, jewellery, silkscreened fabric and T-shirts, Saba spice rum liquor and hand-worked glass figurines and jewellery.

Are there nude beaches?
There are no nude beaches in Saba. In fact, there is only one beach on the island, the tiny Well's Bay Beach.

What are the main industries?
The main industries are tourism, an international medical school, some agriculture and fishing, mining (gravel and sand) and textiles manufacturing.

What native dishes should I try?
Look for Saban Creole dishes, goat stew, spit-roasted chicken, barbecued meats and fresh seafood, such as mahi-mahi with a Creole sauce, Saba lobster and red curry coconut shrimp. Local drinks include Dutch tea or Saba Spice liquor.

How should I dress to go out?
Dress on Saba is casual. Still, it is unacceptable to wear bathing suits, short shorts and short tank tops in public. You may want to bring a light sweater/jacket for evenings, and sturdy shoes with a good grip.

Can I use my hair dryer and electric shaver?
Electricity is 110 AC, 60 Hz, which is the same as in North America.

How much should I tip?
Tip taxi drivers and waiters about 15%. Some hotels and restaurants automatically add a 10-15% service charge to the bill. If service was above average you may wish to leave more.
