GETTING AROUND
BY CAR
There are plenty of car rental agencies on the islands. Bicycles, motorcycles and scooters can also be rented. Roads are generally in good condition, but not well lit at night, and some are poorly marked. Watch out for one-way streets, poorly marked speed bumps, and animals and people along the side of the road, especially at night. Also watch out for cars that have temporarily stopped on the road or off to the side of the road to chat or pick up and drop off passengers. Horn honking is often used as a form of greeting. Driving is on the left.

To rent a car you will need to obtain a local driver's permit, which you can purchase for about EC$65/US$24 at the St Kitts Traffic Department on Cayon St in Basseterre or at any police station on Nevis (Charlestown, Newcastle, Cotton Ground or Gingerland). Ensure you bring your valid driver's license from home.
