  CUSTOMS
Visitors are allowed to bring in 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco, one litre of wine or spirits and 170ml (6 oz) of perfume duty free.

IMPORTING ANIMALS
To import a pet you must obtain an import permit from the Chief Veterinary Officer. To apply for the permit the animal must have a microchip and be blood tested for Rabies Titer at an approved laboratory (see below). For more information call the Chief Veterinary Officer at 268/460-1759.

The Kansas State University Rabies Laboratory is an approved laboratory that uses the Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralization Test (FAVN) in order for dogs and cats to qualify for a reduced quarantine period. For more information call 785/532-4483.

GETTING THERE
BY AIR
Flights arrive at VC Bird International Airport in Antigua (airport code ANU; tel 462-3082/3), which is six miles northeast of the capital, St John's. Flying time is approximately three hours from Miami, four hours from Toronto and eight hours from London.

The airport in Barbuda is called Codrington Airport (airport code BBQ). The only way to fly into Barbuda is with Carib Aviation (tel 481-2400) from Antigua. You can also get to Barbuda from Antigua by high-speed catamaran ferry. See Getting around: By ferry below.

BY CRUISE
The cruise ship ports are located at St John's Harbour and Heritage Quay in Antigua.

BY PRIVATE YACHT
Private boats may enter at English Harbour, Jolly Harbour, Heritage Quay and Deepwater Harbour in Antigua, and Codrington in Barbuda. All crew and passengers must remain on board until the master completes the entry procedures with Customs and Immigration. Each person must pay an entrance fee of EC$7.

GETTING AROUND
BY CAR
There are plenty of car rental agencies on the island. Road markings, signage and lighting are generally poor. Main roads are generally in good condition, but beware of potholes and speed bumps. Watch out for wandering animals and pedestrians along the side of the road.

To rent a car you will need to purchase a temporary Antigua & Barbuda driver's license, which you can purchase for about US$20 at the car rental agency. Ensure you bring your valid driver's license from home.

Driving is on the left. The speed limit is 20 mph in built up areas and 40 mph everywhere else.

BY TAXI
Island taxi tours are available in addition to standard taxi service.

Taxis do not have meters. The government sets rates between destinations and taxi drivers should have a rate card available, however, you should confirm the rate and the currency (US$ or EC$) with your driver in advance.

BY BUS
Private minivans operate along set routes, but service can be erratic, reduces significantly in the evening, and is almost non-existent on Sunday. Enquire at your hotel.

BY FERRY
The high-speed Barbuda Express ferry operates daily between St John's, Antigua (tel 268/560-7989) and Barbuda (tel 268/460-0059 or 724-7027). The 90-min trip costs EC$80 one way or EC$140 return. Mon-Thurs it departs Barbuda at 6:30am and Antigua at 4:30pm. Fri it departs Barbuda at 6:30am and 3:15pm, and Antigua at 8:30am and 5pm. Sat it departs Barbuda at 6:30am and 4:15pm, and Antigua at 8:30am. Sun it departs Barbuda at 2:30pm and Antigua at 8:30am and 4:30pm. Rates and schedules are subject to change.
