Four Seasons Exuma golf: superb course on tap

Greg Norman-designed course raises eyebrows in Great Exuma

Great Exuma, The Bahamas (March 21,2005) – Golfing is superb at the Four Seasons Golf Club at Emerald Bay in Great Exuma. Designed by PGA tour star Greg Norman, the 6,880-yard, par 72 course is surrounded by the turquoise waters of Emerald Bay, with six spectacular holes right along the ocean. It’s simply one of the best courses in The Bahamas.

Greg Norman outdid himself at the Four Seasons Resort in Great Exuma
"I fell in love with the location," says Norman. "The entire site has such great natural beauty and the island atmosphere put you at ease and makes you feel welcome from the time you set your eyes on it." The course winds through a mix of seaside dunes and mangrove preserves, finishing on a rocky peninsula with majestic ocean views. Sea grapes, silver buttonwoods and cabbage palms are some of trees and bushes that line the fairways.

New turf keeps Four Seasons Golf Club green and lush
Play is on a course that sets a new standard of innovative turf technology. The course uses seashore paspalum that is able to survive on salty water, a feature that is especially important for water conservation. It has the feel of a hybrid Bermuda grass and is more environmentally friendly since it needs less fertilizers and herbicides during maintenance. "The use of seashore paspalum offers attractive environmental advantages," said Golf Course Superintendent Erin Stevens. "It has helped us reduce pesticides by 50 percent." Originally discovered in South Africa, seashore paspalum is incorporated into golf courses in a variety of applications throughout the world.
