Mexico resorts protect Carey sea turtles

Dreams Resorts & Spas in Cancun and Puerto Vallarta launch turtle release program

Philadelphia (September 12, 2005) – The Dreaming of Freedom turtle programs at the Dreams Resorts & Spas in Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, seek to protect and enhance the dwindling population of the Carey sea turtles, which breed on the resorts’ beaches. In a special ceremony to coincide with the full moon on September 15th, program staff at Dreams Cancun will release 95 baby sea turtles that had been guarded and protected from exploitation until they hatched August 29 on the resort’s beach. Guests participating in the release receive a certificate of adoption from the resort.

During the breeding season, November through February, sea turtles, particularly the Carey or small green turtle, return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs. Staff at both Dreams Cancun and Dreams Puerto Vallarta work with local authorities to protect these magnificent reptiles, whose numbers have dropped severely over the last twenty years. Dreams’ Explorer’s Club for kids also provides educational programming about the turtles for guests, visitors, and associates.

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa, surrounded on three sides by the brilliant turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, sits on the point of Punta Cancun. A luxury all-inclusive resort combining traditional Mayan with contemporary Mexican architecture, Dreams Cancun features a full-service spa, fitness centre, business centre, 10 restaurants and bars, the Explorer’s Club program for children three to 12 years old, and a plethora of land and water sports. The resort’s 379 guestrooms and suites, luxuriously appointed with marble floors, elegant furnishings, dining area, mini-bar, satellite television, and 24-hour room service, all provide balcony views of the ocean, beaches, lagoon or gardens. Several also provide private whirlpools and other enhanced amenities and services.

Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa nestles into its own secluded cove framed by the Sierra Madre Mountains on one side and the Bay of Banderas on the other. This 337-room, all-inclusive luxury resort features a world-class spa, fitness centre, three pools, four gourmet restaurants, four bars, the Explorer’s Club for children, and an abundance of activities, including tennis, hiking and biking trails, mountain biking, volleyball, a rock climbing wall, and a host of water sports. Spacious oceanview rooms and suites decorated in a contemporary Mexican style overlook the hypnotic blue-green waters of the Pacific and the resort’s large private beach.
