Slides and rides and pools galore at Atlantis resort

Atlantis resort in The Bahamas offers exciting water attractions, serene pools to lounge by, and fabulous white-sand beaches with endless ocean vistas

With 11 pool areas and miles of soft sandy beaches, the fantasy resort of Atlantis offers as much adventure and excitement or peace and tranquility to suit everyone’s notion of the ideal vacation.

Five water slides pour out of the six-story Mayan Temple. Adventure junkies will love the Leap of Faith, a 60-foot, almost vertical drop, which whisks you at top speed through a shark-infested lagoon – in the safety of a clear acrylic tunnel. Competitors can race each other on the dual high-speed Challenger Slides, which even clock your times. The high-speed Jungle Slide propels you on a safari through the bowels of the temple. And for something a little different, hop on an inner tube and corkscrew down the five-story Serpent Slide at high speed through the darkness of the temple’s inner core. You emerge floating through a clear tunnel submerged in the shark lagoon.

On the Lazy River Ride relax in an inner tube as a current gently guides you around a quarter-mile loop. Families will enjoy the zero-entry River Pool, which deepens gradually, like walking into the ocean, and the nearby Poseidon’s Kid’s Pool, with its giant animal-shaped water slides. Kids will also love the mini-slides and water fountains of the Ripples Kid’s Pool.

Atlantis also offers a number of quieter pools if you just want to relax in the warm Bahamian sun, including the palm tree-fringed Royal Baths Pool and the tranquil free-form Lagoon Pool. Over at the timeshare resort, Harborside, the pool area includes a zero-entry, free-form pool with heated jetted spa and a kid’s pool, all overlooking Nassau harbour.

Of course, no visit to The Bahamas is complete without spending time lounging on the country’s glorious white-sand beaches. Miles-long Cabbage Beach runs along the north shore of Paradise Island and offers endless Atlantic Ocean vistas, as does Paradise Beach, on the western shore of the island. On the seven-acre Paradise Lagoon Beach, guests of Atlantis can enjoy water sports, snorkelling, and swimming in a protected inland environment on the hotel’s property.

Whether you want to lounge on a fabulous beach, swish down waterslides and mingle with sharks, or relax around a pool, you’ll find it at Atlantis.
