Spirit Airlines inaugurates service between Florida and Turks & Caicos

New non-stop service operates between Fort Lauderdale and Providenciales

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA (February 16, 2006) – Spirit Airlines, the leading low-cost carrier to the Caribbean, today launches daily non-stop service to Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Non-stop service will be offered from Fort Lauderdale to Providenciales with connecting service from Atlanta, Atlantic City, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, New York/LaGuardia, Orlando, Providence, Tampa and Washington DC/Reagan National.

The inaugural flight will be served by The Spirit of Turks and Caicos Islands, a new Airbus A319 aircraft dedicated to Turks & Caicos. Spirit’s Airbus A319 seats 138 passengers, including eight in Spirit Plus Business Class and 130 in comfortable Coach Class. In addition to offering two-class service, Spirit’s Airbus A319 is equipped with all leather seats throughout the cabin.

“We are delighted to start new service to Providenciales today and this Sunday to Grand Turk,” says Barry Biffle, chief marketing officer of Spirit Airlines. “The Turks & Caicos Islands are a wonderful new addition to our Caribbean network and our Fort Lauderdale hub.”

“Turks & Caicos Islands is overjoyed to welcome Spirit Airlines’ service to our country,” says Hon Floyd Hall, Minister of Finance and Deputy Chief Minister of the Turks & Caicos Islands. “Spirit Airlines is coming into the market at an opportune time when tourism and development is on an upsurge, and we are confident that Spirit will serve the market extremely well. While the island of Providenciales has several other carriers, the addition of Spirit Airlines with its low-cost structure will lead to competitive prices overall. And, as for Grand Turk, the country’s capital, Spirit Airlines’ presence will be refreshing, opening up an international gateway for many to visit the exceptional dive sites and historical landmarks that the city is known for.”
