PRESS RELEASE - 2005

Bermuda loosens up

This new casual Bermuda retreat caters to a young, active crowd through technology, sports, and style.

PRESS RELEASE - 2005

Sandys, Bermuda (February 2, 2005) - Private boats deliver guests to chic cabanas at Bermuda's newest resort, 9 Beaches. Casual is the catchword here. Sandals - not suits - dominate at this dress-down, casual retreat.

True to its name, 9 Beaches sprawls over 18 grotto-studded, landscaped acres with nine pink sand beaches. The 84 cabanas, which stand on stilts, have large windows and double doors that open onto oceanview verandas. Some cabanas even perch over the water and have Plexiglas floor panels revealing tropical fish fluttering below! Guests can signal for room service, cocktails or privacy via flags outside each cabana. Interior designer Lynn Wilson, whose previous work includes The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, the Taj Mahal in India, and Queen Elizabeth's Windlesham Moore Estate in England, styled the interiors.

With Bermuda's 80-degree clear sapphire-blue waters, aquatic options abound at 9 Beaches. Guests can sail a Sunfish, windsurf, sea kayak, scale the floating climbing wall, bob on the floating trampoline, and ripple the waves in a raft, paddleboat, catamaran, banana boat, glass-bottomed cruiser or Jet Ski. The wreck of the HMS Vixen, a small, 1860s twin-screwed ironclad is a short snorkel away. More adventurous guests can learn kiteboarding from certified instructors.

9 Beaches also offers an array of land activities, including tours of sea turtle habitats, flora and fauna coves, birdwatching, a hard-surface tennis court, hot tub, bocce court, kids' playground, fitness center, professional beach volleyball facility, swimming pools, and firepits. Twice a week guests can even enjoy movies screened under the stars. Children can watch indoor flicks nightly from 6pm to 8pm and half- and full-day camp programs are available for a nominal fee, as well as individual babysitting.

This Bermuda resort offers plenty of dining choices. Guests can snack off the roving food and beverage cart (just hoist a flag) or lounge in the laid-back dockside bar with Bermuda's national drink - a rum concoction called Dark'n Stormy's. 9 Beaches also offers fusion fare at Hi Tide restaurant and candle-lit barefoot dining on the beach at the Barefoot Gourmet.

The resort-wide Wi-Fi (high-speed wireless Internet connections), Internet cafe, and free use of a Bermuda mobile phone help guests stay connected. iPods are available for those who wish to soak up music along with the warm Bermuda sun. 9 Beaches even has a roving reflexologist to help promote circulation, health and equilibrium. Pedal bikes provide quick access to all the resort's facilities and scooter rentals are available for those ranging farther afield.

Chic, yet casual, 9 Beaches stands out among local hotels, catering to an active, young crowd. "Although upscale in nature, it?s fashioned after more relaxed resorts in the Caribbean," explains Russ Urban, Managing Director of 9 Beaches and a principal in the management company Island Resort Collection. "It will create a new reason for travelers to consider a vacation in Bermuda."

9 Beaches is to celebrate its grand opening in May 2005. The resort operates from April through December each year.
